The At Home store in Kalamazoo, MI hired us to clean up and improve the appearance of the exterior of their store. The white paint had started to chip, stain and show its age. So we painted the full exterior of the building with a 4′ stripe of dark gray, a 12″ strip of white, and the remaining top of the building in a light gray. The vertical stripes can give make the building look taller, more professional and less industrial.
When it comes to painting exterior concrete, first we clean the concrete. Cleaning concrete is a vital first step because the porous surface tends to trap dirt, grease, and oil. Second we strip the old paint with a scraper, brush and then finish off with a power washer. Third, we seal the concrete to prevent moisture from seeping in which prevents mold growth. Fourth, we prime the concrete with an exterior-grade block primer, which fills pores and evens out the surface. After 8 hours of drying time, we paint the concrete with a masonry paint because it contains binders that contract and expand with the concrete.
