When we power wash any surface, exterior or interior, we use the most efficient and innovative power washer with appropriate power settings to avoid damaging any surface, but especially wood. We keep a consistent distance from the deck surface with a sweeping motion to evenly clean the wood without gouging it. We never use harsh or toxic chemicals, but choose a deck cleaner that is designed for wood to help remove mold, mildew, and grime. Before we begin power washing, we remove all furniture, plants, and debris from the deck and sweep off loose dirt and leaves. Then after power washing, we inspect the deck for any damage such as splintered wood or loose nails that need repair before staining.
Before staining, we ensure the deck is completely dry before applying the stain. Then with the client, we choose the color or shade of stain they are envisioning. We then choose the appropriate wood stain products for the client’s specific deck wood type and the Kentucky climate. Options include transparent, semi-transparent, and solid stains, each offering different levels of color and protection. We only use high-quality stains and sealers to ensure longevity and better protection against UV rays, moisture, and mildew.
We will apply the stain with a combination of brush and sprayer to ensure the best coverage, to avoid lap marks, and ensure the stain is properly worked into the wood grain. If a second coat is required, we will do so for optimal protection and appearance. Then we allow sufficient drying time between coats and before the deck is ready to be used.
